Today in science we tested roller coasters! Not real ones mini ones. For the track we used a long skinny tube of Styrofoam. And for the cart we used a marble. It worked really good but the hardest part is that you had to loop the Styrofoam and make the marble flip without falling off the track. Some people did it on their first try and some people didn't even get to try because their tube of Styrofoam was really loopy and it kept falling off the track. Lots of people were stuck on the one where you had to put two bumps in it and only two tables got it on the first try! We also had to put one bump in the tube of Styrofoam but that was really easy. And the last thing that we had to do is just slant the Styrofoam and let the marble slide in the cup. This experiment was using lots of gravity and friction! Maybe you could try!

FASTT math
Today we did something new. It was called fastt math. Fastt math is when you log on the computer and answer a bunch of math fact questions in a certain amount of time. Everyone did great on their first try. It takes time to do it. The first time we did it we had to see how fast you could type on the computer. The problems you had to answer we're kind of hard. Lots of people knew how to do it already and some people didn't. The facts we're working on now are addition subtraction. Then we'll move on to multiplication!

Fluffy the Great
Hello families,
Today I am going to talk about Fluffy my pet hamster. Fluffy is 5 months old and he is a boy. His birthday is May 17th. Fluffy's favorite food is corn, inside sunflower seeds, peanuts and chew sticks and he loves water with vitamins in it. Fluffy's favorite exercise is running in his wheel and spinning in his ball. Fluffy's hobbies are sleeping, climbing, being high on top of his wheel. Everyone loves and takes good care and good eye of Fluffy. Fluffy loves giving attention to our class. When I carry Fluffy to my car he hides in his hut but I call it his traveling hut.

Reading rocks!
Hello Families,
Today we have been doing very interesting things today I'm going to tell you about read aloud and book club. Today we have done read aloud and that is when we sit on the carpet and not only listen to Mrs. Baker read but we do t-charts too. T-charts are when we write in our journals about the important parts of the chapters and we write thinkings. Important parts are when in a book there's an important part we write it down. My thinking is when we think or predict what you think they feel or what the character is going to do next. This book we are reading is called Ragweed ragweed is a name of a mouse and he is leaving home to explore the world. It is a great book so far!
We do book club which is meeting in groups and reading so many chapters then on the day we meet we discuss what happened in the book by sharing important parts and my thinking.

Laptops
Hello families,
Today we have been working on laptops. In our writing books we wrote stories on and now we're typing them on the laptops . Our writing books help us write words correctly and to write stories of course. Each person in our room has there own laptop which is numbered so you pick your laptop so you don't get in other peoples story's . We have mini laptops not big ones, they're really easy to type on and the perfect size. We have been working on description and showing not telling that means show in writing what you did and writing neatly. Now we have made our books perfect and are typing away on our laptops. Where we've been typing our stories is Microsoft word and there we start typing and we make folders to save our work in on the student share drive.

Hello Families,
Today we've been doing very new and interesting things. Today we were in the mini lab doing FASTT math with two T 's. FASTT math is basically practicing math problems and charting the numbers you need to study. FASTT math is timing you to see how fast you can go doing math problems.
Today in science we had boards as inclined planes and we had balls to roll down the inclined planes. We would use something to hold the board up and there goes the balls down the board. Our class did a high inclined plane which makes our balls go down faster and a low inclined plane which makes the balls go slow. Our class had three balls each table and one board each table. The three balls were a wooden ball, a plastic ball and a marble. The wooden ball went farther because it was heavier and that makes it go farther!

Friday October 4th
Today we tested our parachutes to see how slowly they floated to the ground. Some partners used tissue paper to make their parachute. Most students agreed that the tissue paper made the best parachute. But some of the other materials used were wax paper, fabric, and plastic.
