Writing test

Today in writing we took a writing test. It was actually really fun. It was about sharks. And we had to write 4 or 3 paragraphs. ( or more ). I love to write about things that are true about animals. When I was writing it I read some things that I never even knew!!!!! That's why I love to read things about animals that are true ( especially sharks ) 😀😀😀

Mini computers

Today we did a fun typing thing. It wasn't easy, it was frustrating. But we didn't do it on a real computer we did it on a beginners computer. It was white with spots on the key board (there was spots on the key bord because we could put our fingers in the right place) we were typing letters as fast as we could. There are levels on the computer some people are so far, they're at level 10!!!!!!!!!!

Disease

Today in science we learned about diseases. It was really fun because our whole table got to answer a bunch of questions on a big piece of paper. And also in read aloud we're reading about a girl who got really sick and couldn't move. So far it's really sad. And the disease that she has is called polio. And she has 3 types of polio. They're called spinal, respiratory and bulbar. You should really read it.

Art

Today in art we glazed our pinch pots. Pinch pots are little pots that are made of clay. And you have to pinch the edges for it to turn into a pot. There were about 7 people that made their pinch pot really wide. And the rest of the class made theirs really small. No one dropped their pinch pot. (Thank goodness). Besides if they did they could just glue it when they got home. We're not done with them yet but we're close! We just have to put them in a heater and let them sit there for like 2 hours. If you want to make a Pinch pot you just get some clay and start pinching.

Book club

Book club is when a group of people read the same book together. Today the book I'm going to tell you about is called "Frindle". It's about a kid named Nick who changes the word pen into the word frindle. And then the whole school starts using the word frindle instead of pen. And then the whole state hears about this word and then they start using it and then the whole WORLD starts using it.  It's a great book. You should read it!!

Recess

Today at recess I was on the bars with 3 other kids. It was so fun! I even learned something new. Lots of kids say that recess is their favorite part of the day but I think that recess is my second favorite part of the day! On the bars at recess my friends were doing lots of tricks. One of my friends can spin around the bar more than 3 times. Isn't that cool?  I really wish that I could do it but I'm practicing it.  I'm so close!!! Maybe you could try! And if you don't get it the first time keep practicing!!!

Read aloud

Today we read two chapters in read aloud. The book we're reading is called Ragweed. It's about a mouse named ragweed who goes to a place called amper ville. Ragweed mets lots of other mice but there one problem. There's a cat that lives there and his name is silver sides. Silver sides is a really mean cat. And I'm guessing that his favorite food is mice. It's a great book. And here's some of the characters that are mice: dip stick, ragweed, lug nut, clucth, windsheld, blinker and fog light. And the two cats are named: gray bar and silver sides. You should read it! It's the best book ever!!!!

Reading is cool

Today we were reading our easy books! Easy books are books that aren't chapter books so we call them easy books. They are really fun! At reading time we usually sit at our tables but if we are good then we get to sit around the room. But if you're not good you don't get to sit around the room. Good example: I get my work done on time with out reminders. Bad example: I was talking too much and I had 4 reaminders to stay quite. But today there were lots of people that got to sit around the room. We like Fridays because we get to sit around the room.

P.E

Wednesday in P.E we got to play castle ball. Castle ball is when there are two teams and they both have a castle made out of hola hoops. And they have pins set up right next to the hola hoops. You try to knock the pins down on the other team before the other team knocks your pins down first. When you knock all the pins down on the other teams side you try to hit their castle. And last but not least after you knock the castle down you win...THE GAME!!!

Multiplication

Today in math we did multiplication. It was our 3rd or 4th day doing it. This is how we did it. We had a piece of paper ( with lots of stamps on it) and we wrote numbers in the corners of the stamps. Then we had to cut out the stamps in to big chunks. Then we had to glue the  big chunk of stamps on it. Then we had to multiply the numbers. It was really hard. After that we got to color on the paper we worked on!!!

Magnets

Today in science we got to use magnets. It was really fun! We used lots of different things. We tried to get metal to stick to the other objects. Some of the things that stuck to the magnet were a close pen, a nail, a washer, and a brad. A brad is a type of metal that sticks to a lot of things. The thing that was the most attracted to metal was the washer and the nail. Lots of people were trying to push the two magnets together but they wouldn't budge. And last but not least the force we used today was called magnetism.

ROLLER COASTER

Today in science we tested roller coasters! Not real ones mini ones. For the track we used a long skinny tube of Styrofoam. And for the cart we used a marble. It worked really good but the hardest part is that you had to loop the Styrofoam and make the marble flip without falling off the track. Some people did it on their first try and some people didn't even get to try because their tube of Styrofoam was really loopy and it kept falling off the track. Lots of people were stuck on the one where you had to put two bumps in it and only two tables got it on the first try! We also had to put one bump in the tube of Styrofoam but that was really easy. And the last thing that we had to do is just slant the Styrofoam and let the marble slide in the cup. This experiment was using lots of gravity and friction! Maybe you could try!

FASTT math

Today we did something new. It was called fastt math. Fastt math is when you log on the computer and answer a bunch of math fact questions in a certain amount of time. Everyone did great on their first try. It takes time to do it. The first time we did it we had to see how fast you could type on the computer. The problems you had to answer we're kind of hard. Lots of people knew how to do it already and some people didn't.  The facts we're working on now are addition subtraction. Then we'll move on to multiplication!

Fluffy the Great

Hello families,
Today I am going to talk about Fluffy my pet hamster. Fluffy is 5 months old and he is a boy. His birthday is May 17th. Fluffy's favorite food is corn, inside sunflower seeds, peanuts  and chew sticks and he loves water with vitamins in it. Fluffy's favorite exercise is running in his wheel and spinning in his ball. Fluffy's hobbies are sleeping, climbing, being high on top of his wheel. Everyone loves and takes good care and good eye of Fluffy. Fluffy loves giving attention to our class. When I carry Fluffy to my car he hides in his hut but I call it his traveling hut.

Reading rocks!

Hello Families,
Today we have been doing very interesting things today I'm going to tell you about read aloud and book club. Today we have done read aloud and that is when we sit on the carpet and not only listen to Mrs. Baker read but we do t-charts too.  T-charts are when we write in our journals about the important parts of the chapters and we write thinkings. Important parts are when in a book there's an important part we write it down. My thinking is when we think or predict what you think they feel or what the character is going to do next. This book we are reading is called Ragweed ragweed is a name of a mouse and he is leaving home to explore the world.  It is a great book so far!

We do book club which is meeting in groups and reading so many chapters then on the day we meet we discuss what happened in the book by sharing important parts and my thinking.

Laptops

Hello families,

Today we have been working on laptops. In our writing books we wrote stories on and now we're typing them on the laptops . Our writing books  help us write words correctly and to write stories of course. Each person in our room has there own laptop which is numbered so you pick your laptop so you don't get in other peoples story's . We have mini laptops not big ones, they're really easy to type on and the perfect size. We have been working on description and showing not telling that means show in writing what you did and writing neatly. Now we have made our books perfect and are typing away on our laptops. Where we've been typing our stories is Microsoft word and there we start typing and we make folders to save our work in on the student share drive.

Hello Families,
Today we've been doing very new and interesting things. Today we were in the mini lab doing FASTT  math with two T 's. FASTT math is basically practicing math problems and charting the numbers you need to study. FASTT math is timing you to see how fast you can go doing math problems.

Today in science we had boards as inclined planes and we had balls to roll down the inclined planes. We  would use something to hold the board up and there goes the balls down the board. Our class did a high inclined plane which makes our balls go down faster and a low inclined plane which makes the balls go slow. Our class had three balls each table and one board each table. The three balls were a wooden ball, a plastic ball and a marble. The wooden ball went farther because it was heavier and that makes it go farther!

Friday October 4th

Today we tested our parachutes to see how slowly they floated to the ground.  Some partners used tissue paper to make their parachute.  Most students agreed that the tissue paper made the best parachute.  But some of the other materials used were wax paper, fabric, and plastic.
